Strathcona Hosts Indigenous Peoples Day Event

Strong connections with our Indigenous partners are central to who we are at Strathcona, and we have built enduring relationships with the Indigenous communities near our operations.

Offering team members experiences and opportunities that help deepen our collective understanding of Canada’s unique Indigenous cultures is important to us.

For generations, Indigenous communities celebrated their culture and heritage on or near June 21st in connection with the summer solstice.

This year, the Strathcona team was incredibly fortunate to be joined by Strathcona Momentum Indigenous Scholarship winner, Tyra Metechwais-Wells, and the Blackfoot Confederacy Drum Group and Family, a collective of dancers and singers from nations across the Treaty 7 area.

Tyra Metechwais-Wells, member of the Blackfoot Confederacy Drum Group and Family and Strathcona Momentum Scholarship winner.

Performers shared stories coupled with supporting songs and dance styles, offering explanations for how the melodies, movements and regalia connect to culture, beliefs and traditional ways of living.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in bringing this special experience to life. Please enjoy this video recap of the event.
